Eagle Requirements

Eagle Rank is the highest advancement rank in the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Earning this rank requires a significant amount of work and dedication. To qualify for the Eagle rank, a Scout must be an active member of a BSA troop, fulfill requirements in the areas of leadership, service, and outdoor skills, and demonstrate Scout Spirit through the Scout Oath and Law.

Requirements

To qualify for the Eagle rank, Scouts must meet the following requirements:

• Be active in their troop, team, crew, or ship for a period of at least six months after they have achieved the rank of Life Scout.
• Earn a total of 21 merit badges, including the following:
  • First Aid
  • Citizenship in the Community
  • Citizenship in the Nation
  • Citizenship in the World
  • Communication
  • Cooking
  • Personal Fitness
  • Emergency Preparedness or Lifesaving
  • Environmental Science
  • Personal Management
  • Swimming or Hiking or Cycling
• Serve actively in a position of responsibility in their unit for a period of at least six months.
• Demonstrate Scout spirit by living the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
• Take part in a Scoutmaster conference.
• Successfully complete an Eagle Scout service project.
• Undergo an Eagle Scout board of review.

Once all of these requirements are met, the Scout can fill out an Eagle Scout application and submit it to their local council. The local council will review the application and, if approved, the Scout will receive their Eagle Rank.
